Surgut is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Surgut District of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the largest city in the district and one of the few Russian regional cities that surpass the administrative center of its subject of the federation (Khanty-Mansiysk) both in terms of population and industrial potential.

Geographical location. It is located in the north of Western Siberia. A river port is on the right bank of the Ob River (the most important in the Ob region), 10 km from the railway station, 250 km east of Khanty-Mansiysk, 708 km northeast of Tyumen.

Beryozovo is an urban-type settlement, the center of the Beryozovsky District of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. Beryozovo was founded by the Cossacks in 1593 for further Russian colonization in the Ob north and soon became the largest trading city in Siberia. The city of Beryozovo in the medieval  period was an important center of Russian development of Siberia and a strategic point on the way to Asian Russia.

Geographical location. It is located on the left bank of the Severnaya Sosva River (a tributary of the Ob), 222 km away. 400 km from the Obobye railway station, from the district center of Khanty-Mansiysk: 64° north latitude and 65° east longitude.

Salekhard is a town in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia, serving as the okrug's administrative centre. The town was often used as a place of exile during the Tsarist and Soviet periods. Among notable people who spent time here were the Doukhobor spiritual leader Pyotr Verigin and Leon Trotsky. The town and nearby area contained three Soviet camps where approximately 6,500 prisoners were held, arrested for their belief in God. At the port of Salekhard, approximately 1,500 prisoners loaded and unloaded goods at the dock, or mined metal ores. About 5,000 prisoners in two camps near Salekhard were assigned to polish diamonds mined from Mir mine.

Geographical location: Salekhard crosses the Arctic Circle, the main parts being about 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) south and suburbs stretching to the north of the circle.
